Rouge-Noir

Jan 25, 2012

A while back I once again collaborated with the fabulous Ange from Kenneth Blair in Lloydminster for another fun editorial photoshoot.  We decided to have some fun with this and go with a burlesque theme which we subsequently titled Rouge-Noir.  As was to be expected the models, Haley, Karlee, & Taylor, were fabulous and totally got into character which made it all the more fabulous to photograph them!  The shoot was definitely a great time and since the beautiful Taylor is also a wonderful dancer we ended the shoot with some fun shots of her doing some ballet moves :)

Here are the favorite photos from Rouge-Noir :)

Thanks again ladies, it was great working with all of you!

Kyla - Amazing Hair!

Jun 03, 2011

Some of my favorite people to collaborate with on photoshoots are often hair stylists; they are so creative and I always find it so amazing what can be done with hair!  Kyla was no different, she called me wanting to do some photos for the Goldwell Color Zoom competition and I was very excited about it!  Kyla has been in the industry for 14 years and currently works out of Shampoo, a very cool salon downtown Edmonton.  Kyla was telling me how the industry really picked her, she started colouring and cutting her friends hair in grade 6, so it just made sense for it to become a career.  Her love for the hair industry is so apparent, and it comes as no surprise that she has a full clientele and is often booking months in advance plus it helps that she loves people and she considers her clients as her friends.

Her motivation for entering this competition came from a need to step outside her comfy zone, as she describes it.  Her inspiration for the cut came from a competition class and as for the colour, she says she loves to use one base colour and play with different shades of it for texture and dimension.  As you will see from the photos below, the hair is amazing!  Her concept for the photoshoot was to keep it simple to really showcase the hair preferable using a simple background.  We did the photoshoot at our mutual friend Jacquline's house, who as always did a most amazing job on the make-up!  In her spa space at her place she had this gorgeous light teal and white wallpaper which ended up being such a perfect background.  And then we just played with different angles and accessories to see what we could come up with.  Chrissy, who Kyla had found to be her model was so stunning and seriously has one of the coolest tattoos I have ever seen so we wanted to try to showcase that as well in a few of the photos.

Anyways, check out the faves below and Kyla, I can't wait to hear how you do in the competition, I think you did such a fantabulous job :)

This was the photo that Kyla chose to enter as you could only enter one photo - I think it was a great choice!

Evil is a Point of View

Mar 18, 2011

Back in January Luxx Hair Lounge approached me about doing a photoshoot for them. They were wanting something editorial with a vampire theme; the goal of the shoot was to show their creativity and talent with hair and make-up. And wow was the hair and make-up ever incredible!

So on a very cold day in February we hiked through 2-3 feet of snow to this abandoned old house with broken glass, graffiti on the walls and old rotting wood everywhere. I won't lie part of me was a little scared the floors were going to cave but in all seriousness the girls at Luxx could not have found a more perfect location. It really was like something straight out of a vampire movie! And the models were so great as it was very cold and they braved it with not near as much clothing as one would typically need to stay warm!

I have posted some of my favorites from the shoot to check out :)

Creative Pool Fun

Feb 11, 2011
in

This was such a fun photoshoot! I once again collaborated with Ange Forhy of Kenneth Blair who did an amazing job on hair and make-up! Basically Ange wanted something where we focused more on male models and we both thought why not see if we can use the local pool for the shoot. And so that exactly what we did, we went in after hours and basically came up with some cool shots! The models were so awesome, I can't thank you guys enough! Anyways here are some of the faves from the shoot, check em out and let us know what you think :)

These are awesome. If I didn't frequent this pool every weekend, I'd say it looks like an outdoor pool at a fancy hotel in some of the pics. Great job!!!

Children of the Woods

Nov 23, 2010
in

The idea for this shoot came to me from one of the runway shows at Western Canada Fashion Week. In the show they had vintage hair and make-up and were holding tree branches for props. I loved it! So I came up with this photoshoot; it's about a family of brothers and sisters that live in isolation in the woods. They were raised in the woods away from society so are afraid to be seen by others and very seldom leave the shade of the trees. I realize the look is very "twilight" which I wasn't intentionally going for but I really wanted a cold feel to the photographs.

It took me a little longer than I would have liked but I finally finished this series and it was another collaboration with my friend Echo who did all the styling and her sister Kelly who did the hair and makeup. (A big thank you to you girls, as you both were amazing!) Overall it was such a fun shoot! Not going to lie it was a little chilly outside and the models were amazing sports as we had them in bare feet walking on the cold ground through trees with thistles!

I have as always posted my faves from the shoot, please check them out and enjoy!

Jeanie Andonyk

Aug 20, 2010
in

It had been a long time since I had done a beauty photo session and collaborated with my gorgeous friend Jacqueline Laine, who is probably one of the most talented make-up artists I know. So it was definitely time to put a session together, and who better to model than my other beautiful friend, Jeanie Andronyk. It took us two days to shoot the five looks as we only had mornings that worked with our schedules but it was worth it. I loved the way the make-up turned out, Jacqueline is so amazing as she had pretty much free reign the only direction I gave was picking up the wicked eye lashes that I wanted to use for the looks. We definitely had such a great time doing this shoot, it's always great getting together with amazing ladies!

Jeanie also happens to make some of the most amazing jewelry so we decided to incorporate some of her fantastic rings in the shots. Check out her stuff at: www.etsy.com/shop/jeanieandronyk

These are some of my favorites from the session, enjoy!

Welcome to Dollhouse

May 20, 2010
in

For probably the past year I have had a vision of a "doll-esque" photoshoot, something odd but interesting; I don't quite how to describe this series as I saw it in my head I just had the vision. So a month ago I was finally able to create this series that had been floating around in my head. I once again collaborated with Ange Forhy from Kenneth Blair Salon, who did an absolute incredible job on the hair and make-up. I really wanted to keep the wardrobe pretty simple which allowed me to play stylist, and as for models I knew I wanted a couple petite ladies who could embody the "doll" state of mind. I couldn't have asked for better models than Jeanie and Dallis. They did such a phenomenal job considering I cannot draw to save my life so my sketches for my shots I wanted included stick men! Anyways here are the photos from the series and Welcome to Dollhouse!

What R U Wearing

Mar 20, 2010
in

A new clothing store recently opened up in Lloydminster called What R U Wearing, and I was pretty excited when one of the managers Echo approached me about doing a photo shoot for them. I love love fashion, especially fashion photography so there was no way I was going to pass up this opportunity. Every month they are wanting to do a photo shoot to and use different local models and different themes. This month the theme they wanted was aviation. Well this couldn't have worked out more perfectly as my father shares a little plane with a friend and so I have access to an airplane hanger and the props inside! Well, we definitely had fun with the shoot except for the part where there is no heat in the hanger, it was honestly warmer outside than it was in there! Luckily the models brought sleeping bags and blankets to keep warm in between shoots! Echo's sister Kelly Davidson, who works at the Hair Hut, did the makeup and hair for the photo shoot which turned out really awesome!

Anyways, here are my faves from the shoot to check out and look for them to be poster size and displayed in the windows of What R U Wearing!

Prairie Brides

Nov 30, 2009

Back in September I joined forces with Ange Fohry from Kenneth Blair Hair Salon and we decided to put together a fun shoot with some cathedral veils, aptly named Prairie Brides. One of my favorite locations to photograph is my father's farm as there are old buildings, equipment, and many other visuals. So one a beautiful Sunday afternoon we ventured out with are awesome models, Victoria, Dallis, Danielle, and Cassie and had such a great time! Here are my favorites from the day, enjoy!

Little piece of history, this house was the house my grandfather grew up in.
Victoria was such a sport, she was super cool with walking in the creek in her work boots!
This car we happened to find in the bush by the creek, had to take advantage of such a good find!
Little piece of history part 2, this is the house my father grew up in.
This old tractor was just calling my name to be used as a giant prop!
I realize this photo doesn't exactly match the common theme but Victoria looked great in her street clothes and it just suited the tractor bucket!
